How to Create Contrast and Why It's Necessary
From commercials to social media feeds and everywhere in between, we can see a theme of improvement. But what about contrast?
We often hear, "Lose ten pounds in a week!" or " Save time and money by..." or even "Get better sleep by doing this."
We definitely should be trying to improve ourselves in many ways, without question. Improve your knowledge, build your skills, and grow in the most important areas of your life.
Don't get me wrong; improvement is definitely the antidote of complacency and apathy. You should definitely be working to improve your life in multiple ways.
But what about areas of life where we aren't seeing improvement, or we feel stuck? Here's a different idea not many people are talking about...
Where do you need to make a 180 degree change? Where do you need to stop trying and struggling to improve and simply need to create some contrast?
Here's a few examples:
- Instead of trying to deal with certain people in your life, maybe you need to create some contrast by cutting ties with them entirely.
- Instead of trying to spend a little more time with your spouse and/or children, create some contrast by entirely cutting out a hobby or activity that is sucking up your family time.
- Instead of worrying about something, can you cut it out entirely?
- Instead of hating your job, decide to look for another or maybe going back to school to get that certification or education to make a career change.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is to stop trying to fix or deal with or improve something and instead creating a total contrast.
Write down some areas where contrast is needed, muster up the faith, grab your loved ones to cheer you on, and begin living in the freedom creating contrast in your life can give!
